The 2022 Ford Expedition is the aluminum-bodied SUV you’ve been waiting for. A tri-zone system has replaced the former dual-zone automatic climate control. And, there’s also a new Special Edition Package which includes a 360-degree camera, active park assist, and a heavy-duty tow package.

Comparing Ford Expedition Trims

If you’re in the market for an Expedition, our trim comparison will help you decide which Expedition model suits you best. There are a few different options available with each one packed with more features than the last.

XL STX

The Ford Expedition XL STX is the base trim, starting at $52,620. It comes with a 3.5L Ecoboost V6 engine that’s capable of 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, which allows it to tow up to 9,300 pounds according to Ford. This large SUV is great for someone who needs a vehicle for work or to fit a larger family. Drivers can manually let the second-row seating. This is the only model with just two rows of seating.

If safety is a worry, the 2022 Ford Expedition features a huge wave of safety features, including AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, a rear-view camera, and a Blind Spot Information System (with cross-traffic alert, pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, enhanced active park assist, and lane-keeping assist. The infotainment system is on par with other larger SUVs with the addition of a 12-inch display monitor. It also features four USB ports and six speakers around the cabin. Tri-zone climate control and remote start are standard as well.

XLT

The XLT is similar to the XL version but comes with a power-folding third-row. It also adds satellite radio, rear parking sensors, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Optional comfort and convenience features can be purchased. With all seats folded in the XL model, you can get up to 104.6 cubic feet of space.

Still, need more room? The Expedition XLT Max is the better choice due to it being about a foot longer than the regular model. This provides an additional 16.9 cubic feet of cargo space. All the other features are the same. This trim has a starting MSRP of $56,685.

Limited

The Limited trim starts at $65,835, adding an extra touch of luxury and improved performance.The Limited trim boasts a 400-horsepower version of the same twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine. First and second-row seats are upgraded to leather and are ventilated. Third-row seats are heated and power-folded. Furthermore, there’s a hands-free power liftgate and a panoramic sunroof.

On top of everything that comes with the XLT Expedition, the Limited trim adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel with dark parchment euro stitching. The sound system is also upgraded to include B&O PLAY and a premium audio system that installs 12 speakers in the cabin, and features HD radio. There are additional USB ports, navigation, and an adaptive cruise control system with stop-and-go.

Timberland

The Timberland model starts at $69,695 and is an off-road-based trim with a 440-horsepower version of the same V6 engine across all trims. Four-wheel drive is naturally standard with this off-road trim, as well as heavy-duty skid plates, an electronic limited-slip differential, upgraded suspension, a two-speed transfer case, and 32-inch all-terrain tires. On top of this, you’ll get some unique interior and exterior styling elements.

Most features from the Limited trim carry over here, including its safety features, however, it does not get leather upholstery in favor of high-durability cloth and vinyl seats. This trim also loses the sunroof, heated second-row seats and HD radio as standard features.

For an extra $9,220, you can add on the Timberland High Package which adds a 15.5-inch touchscreen, a 12-speaker premium audio system, navigation, a 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster and a surround-view parking camera. Other individual addons include the panoramic sunroof and a dual-screen second-row entertainment system.

King Ranch

The King Ranch model starts at $76,355. This model features most of the features in the Limited trim along with upgraded leather upholstery, 22-speaker premium audio, and 15.5-inch touchscreen. You’ll also find unique styling, inside and out. Additionally, it comes with features such as a surround-view parking camera system, park assist and a panoramic sunroof.

If you want the rear-seat entertainment system, you’ll have to shell out another $1,995.

Platinum

Lastly, the Platinum Expedition is the most luxurious option and starts at $78,805. It comes with everything the King Ranch trim has and so much more. The exterior adds aluminum roof-rack side rails and a power-deployable running board for easy entry. On the inside, it has chrome accents, which beautifully accompany the luxurious feel of this trim. Leather accents continue on the door trim, and leather seating adds a truly superior feel throughout the cabin.

This trim adds on Ford’s BlueCruise partially automated driving system and massaging front seats, but you’ll still need to purchase the optional dual-screen entertainment system extra – if you want that.
