The 2022 Toyota Highlander is an attractive SUV that has pretty good towing capabilities, but not every trim is made the same. After reading this detailed guide, you may realize that purchasing the highest trim isn’t worth it.

Toyota Highlander Trims

The Toyota Highlander is available in several different trims including both gasoline and hybrid powertrains. If you are interested in the new Highlander, check out these exciting options!

L

The L trim is the base trim for the Highlander. It comes with the standard with a FWD 3.5L V6 engine. The base engine can get up to 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, but it’s not the only choice. If you’re looking for a vehicle that can tow, you may be happy to hear that the Highlander LE can haul up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped.

The Highlander L features an 8-inch, high-resolution touch-screen display, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa and Apple CarPlay support, six-speaker audio, Bluetooth, five USB ports, satellite radio and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Tri-zone climate control, proximity keyless entry and power-adjustable drivers seat are all standard as well.

Safety for the Highlander L is top-notch and includes a rearview camera, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alerts with steering assist, automatic high beams, traffic sign recognition and adaptive cruise control. The L trim starts at $35,405.

XLE

The 2022 Toyota Highlander XLE is the next trim and improves the interior quite a bit. It has a starting MSRP of $40,605 and has the same engine as the other Highlander trims, meaning it also has the same towing capabilities.
