2023 Toyota Highlander: A Trim Comparison

The 2023 Toyota Highlander is an attractive SUV that has pretty good towing capabilities, but not every trim is made the same. After reading this detailed guide, you may realize that purchasing the highest trim isn’t worth it.

Toyota Highlander Trims

The Toyota Highlander is available in several different trims including both gasoline and hybrid powertrains. If you are interested in the new Highlander, check out these exciting options!

The L trim is the base trim for the Highlander. It comes with the standard with a 265-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The base engine can get up to 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, but it’s not the only choice. If you’re looking for a vehicle that can tow, you may be happy to hear that the Highlander LE can haul up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped.

The Highlander L features an 8-inch, high-resolution touch-screen display, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa and Apple CarPlay support, six-speaker audio, Bluetooth, five USB ports, satellite radio and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Tri-zone climate control, proximity keyless entry and power-adjustable drivers seat are all standard as well.

Safety for the Highlander L is top-notch and includes a rearview camera, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alerts with steering assist, automatic high beams, traffic sign recognition and adaptive cruise control. The L trim starts at $36,420.

The 2023 Highlander LE also has a hybrid option that has a 2.5-liter four-cyliner hybrid engine that gets up to 36 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. It has a starting MSRP of $40,220 and has most of the features in the gasoline-only trim.

The 2023 Toyota Highlander XLE is the next trim and improves the interior quite a bit. It has a starting MSRP of $41,820 and has the same engine as the other Highlander trims, meaning it also has the same towing capabilities.

The major exterior change is the power moonroof. The inside gives you synthetic leather upholstery instead of cloth, heated front seats, power-adjustable driver and passenger seats, second-row captains chairs, wireless device charging, and a universal garage door opener. There’s also a 7-inch digital instrument cluster display.

The 2023 Highlander XLE also has a hybrid option which has a starting MSRP of $43,220. Again, it basically has the same engine and features as the gasoline model.

The 2023 Toyota Highlander XSE has a starting price of $43,415. It boasts some sporty interior and exterior styling, as well as sport-tuned suspension, and front and rear parking sensors. Other features include navigation and ambient interior lighting.
