30 Stars Who Drive Vintage Cars
Last update:
January 8, 2024
Celebrities earn millions of dollars, so they have tons of cash to blow. While some of them spend it on houses, others prefer to amass a collection of vintage vehicles. Of course, they can’t keep those classics in the garage all the time. Some of them take out their snazzy cars to run a few day-to-day errands or to speed around a race track—looking at you, Jerry Seinfeld.
While we all know about collectors like Jay Leno, you may be surprised how many celebrities actually drive around vintage and classic cars. Who needs a brand-new vehicle when you can have a souped-up or restored auto that’s a part of history? These 30 stars share that same sentiment. They love their cars as much as some of us do.
1. Robert Downey, Jr.
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
Robert Downey, Jr. has major moolah for his work with Marvel and his portrayal of Iron Man. To reward himself, he purchases vintage and classic cars. He’s purchased at least two dozen during his post-Iron Man era.
One of his favorites is his 1965 Corvette Stingray. He also owns a 1970s Mustang, a 1970s Mercedes-Benz, an Audi R7 and R8, and so many more. Next on Robert Downey, Jr.’s list? A GTI, but he says he can’t afford it just yet. Give it some time, RDJ.
2. George Clooney
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
While Clooney certainly loves cars, his favorite auto isn’t purchased. Instead, it’s a family heirloom. His father, Nick Clooney, purchased a 1958 Chevrolet Corvette V8 C1 convertible in cherry red when he was a young man. Eventually, Nick passed down his beloved car to his son, George.
Clooney owns a number of other vintage cars, including a Porsche Carrera and a two-seater Tango 600, but that isn’t all. This star is also a fan of motorcycles. However, it’s obvious why he takes the 1958 Corvette out for a drive when he can.
3. David Letterman
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
Now that David Letterman is retired, he has plenty of time to do what he wants. For him, that means racing and collecting vintage cars. In fact, Letterman owns some of the most sought-after vehicles in automotive history, including eight Ferraris, six Porsches, three Austin Healeys, and so many more.
Among his collection, he owns a 1955 Jaguar XK140. At the time, the car cost a pretty penny, but now? Letterman’s XK140 costs more than $130,000. In total, Letterman’s collection is valued at over $2.5 million.
4. Ralph Lauren
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
Ralph Lauren is one of the most famous designers in the world. Thanks to his lucrative career, he’s able to explore his other passion—cars. Lauren has a huge collection of vehicles—super, sports, luxury, timeless, and so many more.
One of his most famous vehicles is a 1950 Jaguar XK120 Roadster. This car is just one of five Jags in his collection, but he took a special shine to this one. It has a custom paint job, one he created himself called “British Racing Green with a twist.”
5. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter
(Image via Pinterest; Facebook)
Anyone who knows Beyoncé knows that she isn’t one to skip out on luxury. She’s gotta have the best of the best, and no one will stand in her way. While she’s starting to build her collection of classic cars, one of her most famous vehicles includes a 1959 Rolls-Royce Convertible Silver Cloud.
Knowles received the car on her 25th birthday as a gift from her husband, Jay-Z. Jay-Z also has a fairly large collection of expensive vehicles, worth an estimated $15 million. The Rolls-Royce Beyoncé owns is worth $1 million alone.
6. Matthew McConaughey
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
Matthew McConaughey mostly drives sensible, family cars including a GMC Yukon XL and the Lincoln MKX. That isn’t all he has, however. McConaughey also has a serious love for speed. One of his favorite speed-demons is a 1981 Camaro Z28.
McConaughey also used to own a 1971 Corvette Stingray, but he put the speedster up on eBay in 2006. Instead of pocketing the money, McConaughey donated all the proceeds, $61,600, to Oprah Winfrey’s Angel Network for Katrina and Rita recovery efforts.
7. Eric Bana
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
It seems like actors love driving fast, but who can blame them? Australian superstar Eric Bana has had a lifelong passion for racing. Despite the fact that he often drives a “practical car” (his words, not ours) around Melbourne, it isn’t his favorite vehicle.
His heart actually belongs to his 1974 Ford Falcon XB. This coupe is fondly known as “The Beast” and has been something Bana has wanted since the 1977 Bathurst (a big motor race in Australia). Eric Bana loves his Beast so much that he directed a documentary, Love the Beast, about his relationship with the car. The documentary also shows his terrifying crash in 2007 when the car was nearly destroyed.
8. Jay Leno
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
Anyone who has heard of Jay Leno knows that he adores collecting cars. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find another celeb whose reputation is more intertwined with classic cars. The formerTonight Show host’s collection is estimated to be worth over $52 million.
Naturally, he drives quite a few of them on a regular basis. While some of them are worth noting, like his 1955 Buick Roadmaster and 1967 Chevy C10, the one we’re most impressed with is his 1909 Baker Electric. Leno claims that it’s the only vehicle he owns that’s maintenance-free because it’s so high quality.
9. Jerry Seinfeld
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
Jerry Seinfeld is another celeb that’s renowned for his vast car collection. He often shows off his vintage collection on his show Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Before then, many people didn’t know he had such a love for cars, but the cat’s out of the bag now!
Jerry Seinfeld’s collection is certainly huge, but some cars stand out amongst the others. The one we love to see the most is the 1959 Porsche 718 RSK. It was the 19th one ever made, and it was the speedster designed to show that small cars with a small engine can pack a lot of punch.
10. Kate Moss
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
Kate Moss is one of the most beautiful and popular models in the world. You’d think she’d have a vehicle that matches, but nope! Kate Moss decides to drive around town in a 1964 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, undoubtedly one of the ugliest Rolls-Royces on the market.
The style of the body is certainly outdated, but the car is still one that’s preferred by classic car collectors. Maybe Kate Moss knows a bit more about cars than she’s letting on. Is she another celeb that’s a secret collector?
11. Tim Allen
Tim Allen may be a funny man on Home Improvement, but he takes his car passion very seriously. Those with a keen eye may actually recognize some cars that were featured on the show, including a 1933 Ford Roadster and a 1946 Ford. However, that’s just the start of his collection.
Tim Allen also owns a 1965 Shelby Cobra, 1996 Impala SS, and a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro 427 COPO. Allen has been in love with cars ever since he was a child, so we’re guessing his Hot Wheels collection was just as impressive at age eight as his current classic car collection is today.
12. Aaron Paul
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
Aaron Paul is most famous for his portrayal of Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad, but he’s starting to make a name for himself in other shows. After he won two Emmys for his role as Pinkman, Paul started to really roll in the dough, and one of his first major purchases was a 1965 Shelby Cobra.
Aaron Paul also stared in Need for Speed, where he performed his own stunts. He spent months practicing on the tracks. After the movie wrapped, DreamWorks gave Paul the 1968 Gran Torino he drove in the film. Maybe next will be an El Camino from the Netflix movie, which capped off Jesse Pinkman’s story.
13. Ben Affleck
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
Ben Affleck may make hit-or-miss films, but his car choice is always superb. When he portrayed Batman, he had a chance to drive the Batmobile. Unfortunately, the car was a little short for his 6’4″ stature. The original concept had to be enlarged 110% just to fit him.
While the Batmobile was amazing, Affleck prefers to drive his own classic cars. His favorite car is a 1966 Chevelle SS 396. While it’s already a muscle car, Affleck had some work done so that the powerful eight-cylinder engine would be even more of a beast.
14. Nicolas Cage
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
Nicolas Cage is known for his expensive (and sometimes insane) purchases. At one point, he got in a bidding war with Leonardo DiCaprio for a $276,000 T-Rex skull from the Natural History Manhattan auction.
One of his more reasonable buys include a 1971 Lamborghini Miura SVJ – who wouldn’t want one of those? Well, wait a second. The Lambo was owned by a former Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Cage bid by phone and won the auction for the car, which cost $446,820.
15. Adam Levine
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
Adam Levine seems like the kind of guy that would collect classic cars, so it isn’t too much of a surprise that he really does. To be honest, he has pretty good taste, too. One of his prized possessions is his 1958 Porsche 356A.
Levine loves Porsche above all other models, a passion which started because he spent so much time around his Porsche-loving uncle. Levine is also one of the few people who gets to promote new Porsches, including the recent all-electric Mission E.
16. Colin Farrell
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
We’re not saying this is the best car on the list, nor is it the oldest (that honor goes to Leno). That being said, this is a classic piece of American history. Instead of driving around something expensive, Colin Farrell prefers to get his errands done in his 1987 Ford Bronco.
Sure, it has OJ vibes (not the same year, but whatever), but Farrell loves the thing. Unlike some others on the list, this one isn’t expensive and doesn’t look like it’s in great shape, but it’s nice to know some stars drive junkers like normal people.
17. Tim McGraw
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
Tim McGraw is undeniably one of the most famous country singers out there. What many people don’t know is that his father was also pretty popular. Tug McGraw was a Mets player, and the Mets won the 1969 World Series. McGraw got a $10,000 bonus, and he used most of it to buy a 1969 Mercedes Convertible.
Years later, that car would be passed down to his son, Tim McGraw. Well, actually, Tim’s brother got it first and pretty much destroyed the thing. When Tim got it, he restored the classic car to its original form—now that’s love.
18. Billy Gibbons
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
Gibbons was obviously going to be on the list. ZZ Top’s frontman has made it very clear he loves classic cars, but one has captured his heart in particular. His 1948 Cadillac Series 62 Sedanette. This Cadillac has been dubbed the CadZZilla. It’s been an icon in the custom hot rod industry since it debuted in 1989.
The vehicle was modified with a lead sled body and was rendered by Larry Erickson, one of the head designers of Cadillac. The car cost Gibbons around $900,000, but for him, that was just a small price to pay for the legendary CadZZilla.
19. James Hetfield
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
Metallica frontman James Hetfield also loves classic cars, though his collection mostly consists of hot rods. You know what? That’s pretty fitting for him. Most of them are customized in one way or another, including his 1936 Ford Coupe, aka Iron Fist, and his 1934 Packard, aka the Aquarius.
The Iron Fist has been fully updated and designed to be one-of-a-kind. It has an exposed metal body, which highlights all the unique features of the Coupe. The Aquarius looks almost futuristic with a DuVall-style windshield and a lift-off hardtop.
20. Patrick Dempsey
(Image via Facebook; Facebook)
Patrick Dempsey has done a lot since he first started acting, but his real paychecks began to roll in when he starred in ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. After that, his name was on the map, and we began to learn more about him. Part of that was that he was the owner of Dempsey Racing and is a competitive racer.
While he owns his share of race cars, Dempsey also has a number of cars for off the track, including a 1972 Jaguar E-Type and a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SE. That being said, his first love was his 1963 Porsche 356. Dempsey said he bought it for $10,000, and it was his daily car for 15 years.
21. Arnold Schwarzenegger
(Image via Instagram & Pinterest)
The former Governator has quite the collection of vintage cars, including a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Hummer H1, Bentley Continental GTC, and M47 Patton Tank.
The M47 Patton Tank—which was originally produced to help fight in the Korean War—Arnold actually bought for a charity event. The theme? Crushing cars. So I guess collecting vintage cars for him is a hobby AND a sport.
22. Lady Gaga
(Image via Pinterest & Instagram)
Lady Gaga has a collection of vintage cars that rival most of the men on this list! Her garage includes (but is certainly not limited to) a Porsche Boxter, a Mint Blue Chevy Nova SS, a Ford Bronco, a ’65 Lincoln Continental, and a Chevrolet El Camino.
She even owns Elvis’s pink coupe Cadillac de Ville! (Ok, she later sold it on eBay, but she used it to help promote her fifth album, Joanne, in 2016.)
23. Justin Timberlake
(Image via Facebook & Instagram)
Justin Timberlake loves cars AND has had a partnership with Audi since 2010, so he’s amassed quite the collection. In his garage, you’ll find a 1968 Alfa Romeo Spider, a Hummer H3, a 1993 Acura Legend, and a 1967 Pontiac GTO.
Timberlake fell in love with the Pontiac GTO his character drove in Clint Eastwood’s film Trouble With the Curve, so he had to add it to his collection. He told USA Today, “I found a ’67 GTO in Texas. This guy restored it and had only put like nine hours since he fully restored it. I called him up and said I’ll take it off your hands.” And the rest, as they say, is history!
24. Kendall Jenner
(Image via Pinterest & Instagram)
She may be young, but Kendall Jenner has a taste for the classics. She told CNN Style that, “some people are addicted to tattoos, I’m addicted to cars.” She also told Jay Leno during an interview (in her 1957 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible) that she respects a man more if he has a vintage car.
Among the cars in her collection are a 1969 Chevy Camaro SS Convertible (which she reportedly paid more than $50,000 for, NBD), a 1960s Cadillac Eldorado, a 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible, and a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible.
25. Idris Elba
(Image via Pinterest & Instagram)
Fun fact: Idris Elba actually worked for Ford before his acting career took off. His father did, too. “We drove Fords and it wasn’t just a job to him or me, it was part of our lives,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I always—and still do—feel connected to the Ford family.” He’s had a couple of reality shows featuring his love for racing cars, and has dubbed himself a “king of speed.”
26. Nick Jonas
(Image via Facebook & Instagram)
Nick Jonas likes his cars like he likes his women: older and classic. He’s bought several classic cars since he became famous as a teenager. Among his collection is a 1968 Ford Mustang, a 5th generation Chevrolet Camaro, a Dodge Challenger R/T, and a 1960 Ford Thunderbird.
27. Hugh Laurie
The House star is a big fan of the classics. In 2010, he bought a 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 convertible. He eventually sold it to his mechanic, who fixed it up and is now selling the vintage car for $45,500. It reportedly still had the original radio!
28. Mischa Barton
Mischa Barton has called collecting vintage cars her “side hobby,” and appeared on the show Joyride to show off her driving skills. She particularly loves Cadillacs and drives a baby blue Cadillac Eldorado.
29. Brody Jenner
The Hills star (and Caitlyn Jenner’s son, brother of Kendall and Kylie Jenner) has a serious love for classic cars. He’s particularly fond of his black, 1970s Dodge Charger.
30. Chris Evans
(Image via Instagram & Pinterest)
The British TV presenter did a one-season stint on Top Gear, and his love for cars doesn’t end there. He has quite the collection of vintage cars! Among his collection is a 1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider, a 1961 Ferrari California Spider, a 1964 Dailmer V8 Vicarage Convertible, a McLaren 675LT, and a Jaguar XK120.
He also just so happens to own the original car from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang—no joke! It’s one of six cars that were produced for the movie and is reportedly registered under “GEN 11.”
