S

The 2024 Volkswagen Jetta S has a starting MSRP of $21,435. The 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine generates 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. It can get up to 31 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway, boasting some insanely competitive gas mileage ratings.

Since it’s the base model, it doesn’t have a lot of the flair that you might find with the more expensive versions, but it’s still pretty respectable. Some of the highlights include LED Headlights and Taillights, a rear vision camera, a 6.5-inch composition color touchscreen, and a four-speaker sound system. It’ll also link up with your Apple or Android smartphones and you’ll get a Wi-Fi hotspot!

Other features include an 8-inch digital gauge cluster, heated outside mirrors and a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat. For plugging in all your electronic devices, there are two USB ports on board.

Safety features come standard this year. There’s a rearview camera, forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning and pedestrian detection designed to help prevent accidents before they happen. However, it’s no substitute for safe, alert driving. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert come standard as well.

Sport

The Sport trim starts at $22,585. This model adds black accents to the grille, mirror caps, headliner, and window trim. Interior changes include heated front seats and a rear center-seat armrest.

SE

The Jetta SE has a starting MSRP of $24,875. That small price jump offers enough new features to be a good deal for those who can afford it. It has the same engine and gas mileage, but comes standard with the eight-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, its new features give a much-needed upgraded feel. Things like synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, automatic dual-zone climate control and power-adjustable driver’s seat add to the comfort factor of the new Jetta.

Other features that come standard with the SE trim include proximity keyless entry and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Lastly, there’s a push-button ignition.

SEL

The SEL takes the Jetta to a new level, increasing the price to $28,825. It’s kept the same great engine featured on the other Jetta trims but improves in other areas. The SEL comes with superior comfort and safety features. As for seating, it includes leather upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated rear seats and ventilated front ones. The interior boasts a panoramic sunroof and interior ambient lighting adding to the vehicle’s luxurious feel. An 8-inch touchscreen display, nine-speaker Beats audio, wireless device charging and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster are all standard convenience features with this trim. Along with them, you’ll get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, navigation and satellite radio.

GLI 40th Anniversary Edition

The 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 40th Anniversary starts at $28,085. The limited edition trim, marking the 40th anniversary of the Jetta GLI, gains a few notable performance upgrades. Most notably, it gains a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Other upgrades include adaptive suspension, a limited-slip differential, variable-ratio steering, and upgraded front brakes. Different drive modes allow you to switch things up when it comes to vehicle performance.

It should be noted that in exchange for these performance enhancements, you’ll see a few downgrades from the SEL trim. For one, you’ll get cloth upholstery instead of leather. Additionally, you’ll get heated front seats but not ventilated. Lastly, the trim gains soft-touch door panels and a six-speaker sound system instead of the nine-speaker system.

GLI Autobahn

The GLI Autobahn trims starts at $31,345. This trim offers a number of gains from the 40th Anniversary Edition. First and foremost, you’ll get two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels and genuine leather upholstery. The panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory settings provide a luxurious driving experience for those behind the wheel. Ventilated front seats help reduce heat in the summer months. Lastly, you’ll get the Beats audio system from the SEL trim.

For an additional $800, you can add on a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Meanwhile, for $595, the Black package gives you 18-inch black alloy wheels, black side mirror caps, and a body-color rear spoiler.

Overall, the 2024 Volkswagen Jetta is a fantastic commuter vehicle and easily one of the best cars for new drivers. But even if you want something sporty and affordable, there’s a perfect trim for you.
